In the final race before the National Open Ryan Groff and Nick Skias set the groundwork for a successful third weekend in October.
Ryan Groff made an early race pass of Mike Thompson for revenge from a week ago when Thompson passed Groff for the win in the Wingless 600 Micro Sprints presented by Hoosier Tire and Hyper Racing. Groff’s win is his third of the season. Jesse Maurer finished second followed by Thompson, Jesse Snyder, and Logan Rumsey giving Groff Racing three of the top five (Groff, Maurer, Snyder).
Maurer and Johnny Smith were the heat race winners.
Nick Skias won out in a race long battle with Mike Boyer in the 270 Micro Sprint A Main. Skias ran the whole race with Boyer on his tail. Randy West raved his way to third ahead of Austin Graby and Mike Rutherford.
Skias and Jason Swavely won the heat races for the 270 Micro Sprints.
In the season finale for the Xcel 600 Modifieds sponsored by MGS Trailers it was a first time winner taking the checkered flag. Chaz Buchinksy made a lap 11 pass of Cody Manmiller for the race lead and eventual win of the main event. Manmiller rallied to finish second after being shuffled back in the top five. Brad Arnold was third followed by Eric Whitby and Brian Blankenbiller.
Cliff Brian Jr was at the top of the chart all night in the Mongoose Chassis 125 Micro Sprint “Encore” event. From time trials to his heat race and eventually the the A Main. Brian led every lap of the 25 lap race for his second big win of the season. Brian was also the 4th of July winner. Justin Harrington kept Brian honest in lap traffic, but had to settle for second spot. Alex Lucas, Marty Brian, and Mike Glass were the top five.
Brian, Matt Fernsler, and Austin Graby were the heat race winners for the 125 Micro Sprints.
The National Open is just around the corner. This coming Friday and Saturday, October 18-19 the 270 and Wingless 600 Micro Sprints will race for $3000 to win in the biggest race of the season at Linda’s Speedway.
