Groff wins a thriller; Siegel adds to family legacy

Friday night was No Way Out Ministries Night at the speedway for Suicide prevention and Mental Health Awareness. More than 90% of all mental illness is short term with individuals completely recovering. If you know anybody that might need help, they can text the word “home” to 2741741 for help.

Scott Gingrich lead early in the 270 micro sprint main event maneuvering his way through traffic and holding off challenges from Mike Boyer in the middle of the race Devin Harron at the end for his second win of the season. Harron was second followed by Boyer, Tommy Kunsman, and Ben Stolz.

Heat race winners for the 270 Micro Sprints were Scott Gingrich and Mike Boyer.

Ryan Groff worked tirelessly in the Hoosier Tire/Hyper Racing Wingless 600 Micro Sprint feature to get his car just right on the cushion. Tyler Lindsey was the race leader and stayed in front while the pair worked through traffic, until Groff threw caution to the wind. Groff ran above the cushion a few times in the closing laps to pull even with Lindsey and eventually make a three wide pass in lap traffic on the final lap to steal the win away. Groff and Lindsey finished one two ahead of Tommy Kunsman, Joey Amantea, and Aiden Borden.

Wingless 600 Micro Sprint heat races were taken by Ryan Groff and Logan Rumsey.

Jason Dunkleberger jumped to the early race lead and led every lap on his way to the Mini Late Model feature event victory. Dunkleberger was first across the strip while Tucker Gordner, Jorgie Sweger, Chris Pasco, and Dustin Dunkleberger chased.

The Sharp Mini Late Model heat winner was Jason Dunkleberger.

Jude Siegel wasn’t going to be denied his first victory on August 30 at Linda’s Speedway. Siegel led the whole race to take the checkered flag. Ben Maier, Hunter McFadden, and Shane Crull were the field.

Brian Blankenbiller looked poised to win his first modified feature event at linda's Speedway until the closing laps of Friday nights main event. Dylan mccrone made the inside pass of Blankenbiller to take the race lead and the eventual win. McCrone ran the inside the whole race to the win over Blankebiller, Richie Hitzler, Kenny Harris, and Lance Garrison.

Modified heat race checkered flags went to Kenny Harris and Richie Hitzler.

Dave Carraghan took the top spot in the Slingshot feature from Brett Spitler near half way and then waged a tight battle with the point leader Justin Thompson in the closing laps of the feature. Thompson was to Carraghan’s inside when the yellow came out for a spun car. Carraghan used the open race track to his advantage driving away to his first win of the season. Thompson was second followed by Travis Bieber, Brett Bieber, and Brett Spitler.

Zachary Steffy and Travis Bieber won Slingshot heat races.

Next Friday, September 6, will be the Johnny B Classic held in memory of former speedway promoter John Batz.

This event will offer free grandstand admission for the entire evening, countless raffle items, and increased purse money for the racers.

The 270 and Wingless 600 Micro Sprints will race for $510 to win. The 125 Micro Sprints and Modifieds will chase a $400 to win prize. The Chargers, just weeks before the $500 to win championship race, are going for a $300 payday. Each winner will also leave with a custom guitar as the trophy.

Grandstand gates open at 5:30 with racing starting at 7:30. A special National Anthem presentation will start the evening’s racing.

Some of the silent auction items and raffle baskets will be available will include articles from Knoxville Nationals champion David Gravel and All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car driver Brock Zearfoss. A racing theme book basket as well as raffle donations from Moose’s Lz, and G-Force Transmissions are on a continually growing list for the night.
