June 14: Owen's Night

Friday June 14 Linda’s Speedway will present Owen’s night in honor of Owen Thompson and the many others that are battling type 1 diabetes on a daily basis. Owen is the younger brother of Mike Thompson, a 600 Micro Sprint racer at Linda’s Speedway.

Owen was diagnosed with type 1 at the age of five. “We were lucky, he was older and kind of understood everything a little easier,” said Len Thompson (Owen’s Dad). Thomspon continues, “(Owen) takes a lot of shots to balance everything and it's a challenge, but we meet the challenge every day and kick it’s butt.”

With type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the carbohydrates you eat into blood glucose (also called blood sugar), which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives.

The Thompson family participates in a diabetes benefit walk each year. It is the hope of the speedway that with this night we can help aid their efforts in that walk fundraising.

If any teams are interested in donating items for a raffle please contact the speedway via Facebook or email at Mike@Lindasspeedway.com.

Friday night will be a packed night of racing with the Winged 600 Micro Sprints, 270 Micro Sprints, Modifieds, Chargers, and restricted 600 Micro Sprints.
