Linda’s Speedway closed out the 2016 racing season Saturday evening with the annual awards banquet held at the Holiday Inn in Grantville, Pa. 250 guests represented the weekly classes honored as well as the ARDC Midget champion.
This year’s top performers received their accolades to close the 41st season of racing at the speedway.
Devin Harron, of Shillington, clinched his first 270 Micro Sprint track championship after a season in which he claimed with three feature wins, seven heat race wins, and 17 top five finishes.
Tommy Kunsman’s first Linda’s Speedway championship came in the Hoosier Tire Wingless 600 Micro Sprint class. Kunsman, from Bethlehem, won the season opening event and then added four more wins to his total along with 12 top five finishes.
Hayden Miller notched a title at Linda’s Speedway in 2016 in the Hoosier Tire winged 600 Micro Sprints one year after falling just laps short of the title. Miller claimed his first victory at the speedway during the season as well as seven top five finishes. Miller was also the 2016 Summer Shootout Series champion.
Richie Hitzler claimed his third Xcel 600 Modified point title presented by Dayne’s Automotive. The Lebanon resident, Hitzler, won the championship with two feature wins, six heat race wins, and a series leading 11 top 5 finishes.
Sam Scicchitano became the 12th different Slingshot champion in 2016 at Linda’s Speedway. Scicchitano obtained the Seidel Hyundai Slingshot championship with two feature wins and ten top ten finishes.
Eric Hollenbach, of Fredericksburg, became only the second driver in Charger history to have four championship titles. Hollenbach received the contest’s top honors with three wins (The most of any of his previous championship bids) and eleven top ten finishes.
East Petersburg driver Zach Hollinger was honored as the 2016 Gutshall’s Automotive 125 Micro Sprint after a season in which Hollinger claimed his first checkered flag at the track. Hollinger followed that win up with two more wins on his way to the title.
ARDC Midget champion Alex Bright was also honored as part of the night’s festivities as well as car owner champion Ted Bright. Bright was a winner in the final ARDC event of the season at Linda’s Speedway.
Rookie of the Year awards were presented to Dan Lane (270 Micro Sprints), Dustin Stoltzfus (600 Micro Sprints), Scott Heilman (Modifieds), Alex Yankowski (Slingshots) and Shjon Dove (Chargers).
Most Improved Driver awards went to Collin Ginther (270 Micro Sprints), Kenny Harris (600 Micro Sprints), Brian Blankenbiller (Modifieds), and Josh Demmy (Chargers)
The Hard Luck award winners were Morgan Rochelle (270 Micro Sprints), Brandon Heist (600 Micro Sprints), Brett Bieber (Slingshots), and Dylan McCrone (Modifieds).
The Steve Buch Sportsmanship awards were presented to Alex Schmiedel (Slingshots), Josh Demmy (Chargers), Kyle Weiss (270 Micro Sprints), Devin Gundrum (600 Micro Sprints), and Josh Bewley (Modifieds).
The 2016 Driver of the Year award was presented to the 270 Micro Sprint champion Devin Harron after a fan vote was conducted on Linda’s Speedway’s web site through the Thanksgiving week.
Opening night promotional items were on display for the Friday March 31st season opening event featuring the ARDC Midgets, Wingless 600 Micro Sprints, as well as the 270 Micro Sprints.
